SIGYN
Origin: Vanaheimr, later Ásgarðr
Gender: Female
Age: Unknown
Goddess, Sorceress
DOB: Unknown
Æsir/ásynja [formerly Vanir]
Strength Level• Sigyn possesses superhuman strength enabling her to lift (press) 25 tons under optimal conditions.
Known Abilities• Sigyn possesses the conventional physical attributes of the Asgardian gods. Like all Asgardians, she is exceptionally long lived, but she is not immortal like the Olympian Gods. She has not aged since reaching adulthood and cannot die by any conventional means. She is immune to all Earthly diseases and is resistant to conventional injury. If she were somehow wounded, her godly life force would enable her to recover with superhuman speed. It would take an injury of such magnitude that it dispersed a major portion of her bodily molecules to cause her a physical death. Even then, it might be possible for a god of significant power, such as Odin or for a number of Asgardian gods of equal power working together to revive her. Sigyn also possesses superhuman strength and her Asgardian metabolism provides her with far greater than human endurance in all physical activities. (Asgardian flesh and bone is about three times as dense as similar human tissue, contributing to the superhuman strength and weight of the Asgardian gods.)
Sorcery• She also has some mystical abilities of unknown nature. She can travel from Asgard to Earth, change her form and cast spells, some of which have included the bonding of Loki's spirit to a suit of mystical armor, and the creation of a duplicate of Dr. Donald Blake (the human vessel for Thor created by Odin), virtually undistinguishable from the original. Her power level is unknown, but her mystical prowess is not as powerful as Odin or Loki.

PAST | PRESENT | FUTURE Note: After the Æsir–Vanir War, the Vanir became a subgroup of the Æsir. Subsequently, members of the Vanir are sometimes also referred to as members of the Æsir. All sources describe the deities Njörðr, Freyr, and Freyja as members of the Vanir, as well as Njörðr's sister, Kvasir, and in some writings, Sigyn. For her initial origins, I will be pulling from the "Sigyn is Vanir" stories, but due to how little there is of Sigyn in the mythology as well as the Marvel Universe, much of this will be some severe artistic license. Nearing the end of the Æsir–Vanir War, the warriors of the Vanir offered many of their women to Odin and his warriors as a means to appease him and end the war, as there had been far too much Vanir blood spilled. Though the women, the young Sigyn among them, were taken, Odin continued his onslaught upon the armies of the Vanir for quite some time before accepting the head of Mimir as his "payment". The Vanir would be forced into the ranks of the Æsir, their own heritage and customs diluted as they attempted to adapt to those of the Æsir and forge new lives in Ásgarðr. Some made peace with their ordeal and took up lifestyles more suited to those of a warrior, but Sigyn did so begrudgingly, oftentimes burying herself in books and scrolls rather than carry a sword out to the training fields. Sigyn would find the library to be her sanctuary of choice, and it was here that she would meet Loki. Sensing a kindred spirit within him and a similar hunger for knowledge, she chose to befriend the quiet son of Odin, unaware that like herself he had been taken from his home in the wake of a war. Their days and evenings were spent studying and talking, frequently content simply being in one another's company even if nothing was said. Displeased with Loki becoming affectionate toward Sigyn, Odin arranged for the Vanir girl to marry one of his own warriors by the name of Theoric. Though Theoric was a kind, attractive man and a capable warrior, Sigyn did not love him, though she did attempt to appear to in the hopes her personal feelings would shift in his favor to stave off any potential anger from the Allfather. Throughout the lengthy engagement, Sigyn would continue her friendship with Loki, quietly, but her affection toward him was withheld and she would appear strained and conflicted when he was near, her actions under a great deal of scrutiny by Odin, Theoric, and many others. She grew to care for Theoric enough to worry when he would leave for battle or for a hunt in the mountains, but she never felt the same connection that she had felt with Loki. Before their marriage could take place, however, Theoric was mysteriously slain. history. history. history. history.
CLOSER INSPECTION Sigyn has thick and dark, wavy hair reaching down to her mid-back, and her eyes are almond-shaped and dark, almost black. Her pale skin and deceptively innocent face hide a great deal of pain behind a bright, sweet smile that she gives rather freely; as time goes on, however, her face will begin to show more a more weary side to this otherwise friendly and caring individual. Rather than built like the stout, well-muscled and full-figured women of Ásgarðr or the typically busty and "child-birthing" hipped Vanir women (seen often as goddesses of fertility) Sigyn is more on the short and slim side, small-breasted and having narrow hips and waist. Though as physically capable as the average Æsir, Sigyn's greatest strength is far more cerebral and spiritual. Among the Æsir or Vanir, she could be described as rather plain and "undesirable" in a society that prizes the births of many strong children. Her clothing is understated in muted blues and browns, and almost always fully-covering and layered due to her intolerance of the bitter cold of Asgardian winters. Sigyn is one who values intelligence and loyalty above all else, and will steadfastly support those she loves without faltering (except under dire circumstances and, at least once, under threat of death by Odin himself). Outwardly, she is sweet, affectionate, and naive, but like many of the Æsir there is more to her than what lies on the surface. She is highly intelligent and has an excellent memory, and her grasp of sorcery and archery and, to a degree, swordplay would at one time earn her the title of Mentor to the children of the Æsir. Sigyn has a keen eye for detail and a small degree of talent for strategy, but she rarely utilizes this particular trait as it would increase her chances of being sent to war. She is no coward, but she would rather choose her battles than have them foisted upon her by someone else; once angered or her loved ones endangered, however, she will not hesitate to pick up a sword and shield and charge head-on into battle. Compassionate and empathetic, Sigyn prefers to try to see the good in others, even if they have done a great deal of wrong; for most, she feels there is an underlying reason for their misdeeds and she chooses to find and nurture the glimmer of goodness within them rather than condemn them for their crimes. She is loyal to a fault to those she loves, and sometimes this brings her a great deal of pain and suffering; she feels the pain is worth the rewards. Like most of the Vanir, Sigyn is slightly clairvoyant (precognitive) and it is possible that she was able to see the suffering that would come from remaining loyal to Loki, and chose to ignore it. In addition, she is prone to visions, which she passes off as dreams or nightmares, and will sometimes thrash about in her sleep.
